Estate planning workshop Wednesday
McCOOK, Neb. -- Estate planning may not be an easy topic to discuss, but it is something that everyone should consider whether their estate is large or small.
To get the conversation going, McCook Community College, the McCook Community Foundation Fund and the Nebraska Community Foundation have joined together for a free estate planning workshop Wednesday.
The estate planning seminar is Wednesday, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on the MCC campus in McMillen Hall, Room 213. There is no charge and lunch will be provided. Registration is requested at 308-345-8122.
The primary purpose of the estate planning seminar is to encourage conversations about estate planning and the importance of planning early as well as having your financial matters in order.
Topics will range from IRAs and inheritance tax to creating a strategy by small business owners, whether ag-based or with a downtown storefront; how do you fulfill your financial wishes and the best way to use your assets; and how much does an attorney cost and what does a professional financial advisor or attorney bring to the process.
While participants are encouraged to attend the entire workshop, people can still drop in for a session or two. The agenda for the day includes a welcome at 10 a.m. by MCFF Chairman Cynthia Huff, followed by Doug Skiles, a fellow MCFF committee member and a CPA with McPherron, Skiles and Loop, about estate and income tax planning.
The remaining agenda includes:
· 11 a.m.: Ben Dutton, UNL Extension, family business transition
· Noon: lunch
· 12:45 p.m.: Jim Gustafson, NCF, charitable giving
· 1:30 p.m.: Aaron Broz, MNB, general investment strategies
